A "CERTIFIED FARMGIRL" creation!!

This is something fun that I made for myself, using the downloadable transfer from MaryJanes Farm. I decided to make the different sections of the four-part pocket out of different farm prints and the "certified farmgirl" pocket, on red ticking is divided in two. The black/white print is fabric that my mother-in-law gave me with tiny cow heads on it and the words "moo". It's quite possibly vintage and I used up all I had of it. The red apron body is canvas. This apron will be GREAT for crafting, gardening, doing Farmers Market . . . all kinds of things . . . it's sturdy and has lots of pockets.

I decided that I wanted to make ME a Christmas apron so this is the retro style I fashioned for myself. I had purchased the fabric when my daughter and I went shopping but wasn't sure what I would do with it but I just really liked it. It's so comfy and fun and I just love it. Wore it last Saturday at the Christmas Bazaar where I sold aprons and wore it today while shopping in town. One of the gals who works in the fabric department at our Walmart . . and who has cut miles and miles of fabric for me told me it was "Adorable!" Fun! Fun!! And, yes, that is pom-pom trim on the pockets.

Teeny Tiny Christmas Aprons

There is such fun in these little aprons in a variety of forms. They are unique, interesting, very small and just pretty darned cute. A farmgirl friend of mine made me the little garland of mini-aprons. They are hung on string with little clothespins and each one is approximately 4 inches square.

On the wreath I've hung my Christmas Apron ATCs (artist trading cards) that I received from different farmgirl friends just recently in our ATC swap. Each one is a tiny little piece of art and each one is unique. There are a few other Christmas ATCs on this wreath, as well as some tags I've received from other Christmas Tag swaps.

So fun . . . don't you think very fitting for this "Apronista?"

A Cowboy and An Apron

He was a working cowboy, through and through. You could tell by his sweat stained western hat, leather sheepskin- lined vest, worn jeans and his boots which obviously had been outside a lot. He had a toothpick in the corner of his mouth and a little bandage on his ear. He stood looking at my apron display at the Christmas Bazaar for several minutes, slowly walking along the table looking at each one.

Then he looked at me with the bluest eyes, with a twinkle in them and in a very friendly voice said "I'll bet you're wondering why a man is looking at aprons". My response was that I really wasn't wondering because I've sold many aprons to men, but they also buy them for the ladies in their lives. He said, "well, you got me!"

He purchased one of my regular bib aprons in a cheery, garden print for his wife for Christmas. I asked him if she was a gardener and he said that he was more than she was but he thought that it was the perfect apron for her. . . and the perfect Christmas gift.

Of course, he was only one of many apron customers at this bazaar and not the only man. But his presence and demeanor just sticks in my mind . . one of my fun memories from a fun day!

Part of what I use for the finishing touchs on my aprons. I try to be very creative with the use of these trims in coordinating with the fabrics and styles.

Just one fabric stash in my project room . . . polka dots to coordinate with other prints. What fun!

Ribbon, ribbon and more ribbon. I love ribbon and have such fun using the different colors, types and prints to embellish my aprons. These are a few elements I find necessary to fashion the different aprons that I make.

My "Farm Fresh Aprons" sales are very lively! And they are "fresh"! I have been SOOOOO busy I got my hubby to help cut the aprons out for me. He was already my "tie-turner" . . . now he's a "cutter-outer"! He is a woodturner and knifemaker, so his is an expert craftsman and I knew he would cut well and not ruin my dressmaker shears.

Smiley Faces . . . and 'Shrooms!

"Mr. Happy" (Dave) and his wife own a bakery/cafe in Cortez, Colorado. They also sell their cookies, cinnamon rolls, scones and other yummies at our Farmers Market. Dave had asked me to make waist pocket aprons for all their waitresses using smiley face fabric which I did. Then he wanted bib aprons for himself and his wife. So here they are . . smiley faces all around.

Matt, another vendor at the Farmers Market sells plants that he nurtures in his green house. His plants include all kinds of herbs, tomatoes, peppers, etc. He also sells mushrooms. His business is called "Tierra Madre Herbs". He wanted his apron to have some mushrooms on it . . .so the pockets and ties are made from a print of all kinds of 'shrooms.

These were custom order aprons for some of our "co-vendor" friends. In spite of the very cool, cloudy, too breezy day with the threat of rain I had another great day for apron sales.

And, Jerry . .. check out last weeks post . . . finally bought his lovely wife, Sandy, her own apron. But I was not able to catch her for a photograph.

A customer from Holland . . . and a Marine!

This lovely lady, Mary, from Holland wanted to buy a retro style apron with Western boots all over it. She and her husband, Klaas, were such a delight to visit with!

Jerry, a local resident, and a former Marine wanted me to make special aprons for him so the first one I made is the blue one on his arm . . he said he would get flour all over it. Then he wanted the red one so he could put the USMC letters on it. He and his wife, Sandy, stop by every Saturday morning to say "HI" and . . well, Jerry likes to give me a hard time! We have fun.

My friend and co-vendor at our local Farmers Market, Michele, and her mom in their "retro" style aprons. Michele had brought me vintage fabric, some definitely vintage feedsack fabric and asked me to make aprons out of it. So, I made her five different "retro" style aprons. "Hot" off the Sewing Machine!!

Got a phone call on Tuesday night from a lady who wanted to come to my house and pick out an apron for a wedding shower gift. We made arrangements for her to come over the next day . . .she came to buy ONE apron. But she just found herself liking so many of them she wrote a check for THREE. As we were talking about my aprons and sewing schedule I showed her the one I had JUST FINISHED . . . not five minutes before she drove in my driveway. It was my "Hot Pink Lipstick" flounce. She asked me if it was finished and told me she wanted to buy it too so she handed me cash for that one. Talk about "hot off the sewing machine"!!!! That cute little number left my house . . and my hands . . before I had time to admire it myself and certainly before I got a picture taken of it. YAY!!!! A "one apron sale" turned into FOUR!!!

Record sales!!

I'm just as pleased as punch! My apron sales at the local Farmers Market hit a record yesterday! This entire season has been my best season anyway, but yesterday was the best sale day I've ever had.

Now, I have to get my dressmaker shears a cuttin' like crazy again over the next few days, followed by a lot of sewing machine whirring to get ready for next Saturday's market day!

If a picture of an apron you saw is now missing, it is because it has been sold at my vendor booth at our local Farmers Market. Our season started the first Saturday in June and will run through the first Saturday in October.
Most likely I will not be posting pics here of new aprons while season is open. HOWEVER, I AM MAKING aprons and they are ALWAYS available and I WILL make whatever you like . . if I have the fabric, of course.

Everything else is "Farm Fresh" . . why not aprons? So, that's what I call mine!!
I make aprons in every style, adult sizes and childrens sizes. Custom orders are available and pricing for custom orders depend on what the customer is asking for.

Aprons are available for men and boys as well.

All bib aprons except those made of denim, duck or heavier fabric are lined. Waist aprons, typically, are not lined. All aprons have pockets.

Children's aprons can be ordered in different sizes and the neck ties on these are two piece, to accommodate the child growing taller.
